“Acting” like an adult

Growing up, I wore a WWJD bracelet because I was a cool Christian (shoutout DC Talk, TobyMac, and vacation Bible school).

Now, I wish I had a WWAAD bracelet. What Would An Adult Do?

I'm all about doing what Jesus would do, but acting like an adult feels like a much more attainable mandate.

Faced with a sink of dirty dishes, an adult would wash them.
Faced with a full day of meetings, an adult would wake up early to prepare.
Faced with conflict at work or at home, an adult would address the issue head-on.

The funny thing about acting like an adult is that age is irrelevant. I thought that as I got older, adulthood would become my natural state. It hasn't. In fact, bursts of childishness are just as common as moments of maturity.

This is why I think we call it "acting" like an adult. We're kids playing at being grown-up.

Which makes acting like an adult a game of whimsy.
