Week 11

March 21, 2016

Day 65

Exercise: Swim

Time: 40 minutes

Distance: ?

There were no band-aids in the bottom of the pool, so I count that as a win.

Day 66

Exercise: Bike/Run

Time: 1 hour/30 minutes

Distance: 15 miles/3 miles

I biked in the gym today, and there was a girl on the bike next to me who was going faster than me. I was frustrated. She didn't ride for as long as I did, but while she was on the bike I couldn't keep up with her. I think I wrote about comparing myself to other people in the very first post so it's funny to see the same concept coming up in week 11. Maybe one of these days I'll stop looking at the person next to me and focus on what I can control.

Day 67

OFF

Day 68

Exercise: Swim

Time: 40 minutes

Distance: ?

Two days ago a girl biked faster than me and today an old man swam faster than me. To make matters worse, the old man was wearing a speedo...Insult to injury.

Maybe God is trying to trim away the small shred of pride I have left? If he is, he's doing a wonderful job.

Day 69

Exercise: Bike/Run

Time: 1 hour/30 minutes

Distance: 15 miles/3 miles

Today was the first time I didn't want to get off the bike when I was done riding because March Madness was on every TV in the gym. I wonder what gyms were like before they had TV's...Did anybody go?

Day 70

Exercise: Run

Time: 1 hour

Distance: 6 miles

Perfect weather for a run.

Day 71

Exercise: Bike

Time: 3 hours 40 minutes

Distance: 50 miles

Too far. Those are the two words that describe today. It's funny to me how every time I'm in the middle of a difficult workout part of my brain tries to talk me out of finishing. Today, I was 15 miles in and debating about stopping at 40. I don't know why I work that way, but I've also learned if I can get past the part of the workout where I'm contemplating quitting, then the rest of the workout is much easier.

There is a hump every day where I either have to quit or push through to get on the opposite side of the hump. And just like a hump, pushing through to the top is a difficult uphill climb, but the other side is an enjoyable downhill ride. Unfortunately, knowing what's on the other side of the hump does not always make it easier to climb.
