This book reads like an un-put-down-able confessional. And I really couldn’t put it down.

I had never read Lily King before, but I was obsessed with her prose. Which may be the most fan-girly sentence I’ve ever written, but whatever. It’s true.

I can’t say that this book is “fun” to read per se, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. The anxiety in the book is real and heavy, but at the same time, nothing feels forced or melodramatic. I really enjoyed the varying length of the chapters—for some reason, they fit perfectly with how I imagined the main character would’ve written this book.

And ultimately, I found this book very human. It just felt true. Which may be the highest compliment you can give to a novel.

Favorite Quote

The hardest thing about writing is getting in every day, breaking through the membrane. The second-hardest thing is getting out. Sometimes I sink down too deep and come up too fast. Afterward, I feel wide open and skinless. The whole world feels moist and pliable.
